Joe Downs

Joe Downs, Executive Vice President, joined Veritas Realty in May 2017, bringing his extensive background of over 35 years in retail real estate development services, construction and property management, and retail leasing and sales.  Joe is responsible for the oversight and growth of the company’s Development Services division where he specializes in retail development consulting and land assemblage for landlords and end-users, and preferred development for various clients.

Joe started his commercial real estate career with Melvin Simon & Associates (1979 – 2001) where he enjoyed many exciting experiences including the 1993 transition to a publicly traded company when Simon Property Group was formed.  During his tenure at Simon, Joe was responsible for project management and development of several acclaimed retail projects including the Mall of America in Minneapolis.  Prior to Veritas, Joe was Senior Vice President of Lauth Group, Inc. (2001 – May 2017) where he oversaw the development and lease-up of such notable Indiana projects such as Clay Terrace Lifestyle Center (570,000 SF) in Carmel, Lafayette Pavilions (404,000 SF) in Lafayette, Porter’s Vale (750,000 SF) in Valparaiso, Southport Commons (500,000 SF) in Indianapolis, and numerous build-to-suit developments for Gander Mountain, Fresh Thyme Farmer’s Market and other notable retailers and restaurants.

With his strong passion for the retail industry and his extensive retail project experience, Joe provides comprehensive real estate solutions for his retail and landlord clients, while simultaneously exhibiting best practices in his retail real estate activities.
